Sermon Description:
“Now, Lord, You are letting Your bond-servant depart in peace, according to Your word; for my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared in the presence of all the peoples: A light for revelation for the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.” (Luke 2:29-32)
These were the words of Simeon as he held the Baby Jesus in his arms, just eight days after the birth of the Christ Child. The Scripture passage tells us that he was led by the Holy Spirit in going to the temple and meeting up with Joseph and Mary as they were there to circumcise Jesus and dedicate Him to God according to the Law of Moses. These words were from a man who was filled with joy and assurance, for he had been waiting expectantly for the arrival of the Messiah, and therefore God's salvation; the consolation of Israel. Reflecting back to your own first encounter with Jesus, what was that like? What will your response be when you finally see Jesus face to face?
Please prayerfully consider these questions, as you prepare to worship the Lord this coming Sunday for our Christmas Sunday Joint Worship Service. The worship service message title for this Sunday is "Why Christmas?" (Why worship Christ?), and we will look together at Luke 2:25-32. During the worship service, we will also have an advent candle lighting by the Okura Family, special worship singing, a Christmas presentation by the Sunday School children, and a Gospel hula presentation, all to the glory of God!
