Being the Church: Being Witnesses of Jesus Until His Return

Date: Sunday, April 11, 2021

Series Description:

Discovering together how to be the church by the power of the Holy Spirit, growing up to the bridegroom of the church who is Jesus, all to the glory of the Father.

Sermon Description:

So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:6-8) Knowing of Jesus’ soon departure back to heaven, His disciples asked Him, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” Now that Jesus was resurrected, they wondered if He was now going to establish His kingdom. Instead of giving specifics of the date of establishing His kingdom, Jesus encouraged His disciples to focus on the task that was before them, that is to be His witnesses. Jesus also made it clear of what they would need in order to carry on that task: the Holy Spirit. He promised them that they will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon them to be His witnesses to the world.

Starting this Sunday, we start a new message series titled “Being the Church.” We begin by looking at what it means to be individually and corporately Jesus’ witnesses to the world. We look together at Acts 1:1-14, and the message title is “Being Witnesses of Jesus”.
